Breeds Of Dogs
Dogs have been very important in human culture throughout the centuries. Although it is not known when
the first dogs were domesticated, almost every human civilization has adopted them and made them an
important part of their culture. Our canine companions have been indispensable partners in hunting, herding
cattle, having fun and guarding. And, it seems, that forever, our best friends...
Because of their closeness to humans, dogs have evolved and adopted characteristics that have set them
apart from other animals. In fact, no other animal has the variety and adaptability to human life that
dogs have.
The reason for this is that humans have bred dogs for centuries in order to enhance special traits or
characteristics that are desired, as well as to get rid of undesired traits. The result of this is that
today there are literally hundreds of breeds of dog from all over the world,
that have completely different characteristics.
Breeds of dogs have become so important, that there are special clubs, called kennel clubs, dedicated to
protecting, identifying, classifying, and registering the different breeds. They also dedicate themselves
to deciding and standardizing the characteristics for all breeds of dogs. They help to determine whether
your dog is a Yorkie
or a Boston Terrier.

In fact, the characteristics established for breeds of dogs, set up by kennel clubs, are so strict that it
takes a learned and experience person to tell dogs that comply with these characteristics apart from
the rest. The small things that disqualify dogs from belonging to particular breeds of dogs can be as subtle
as a tail that's an inch too short or too long.
This strictness, regarding what makes different breeds of dogs, might seem excessive to people outside
the industry.
But in reality, it's very useful for making sure that breeds of dogs are consistent from generation to
generation. Kennel certification of a dog's breed is important. When you are buying a particlar breed of
dog, you can be assured, that no matter where you
purchase the dog, it'll be guaranteed to have the same breed characteristics.
In fact, that's the biggest advantage of choosing amongst specific breeds of dogs. Sure, buying a
purebred puppy can be quite expensive, with the cheapest puppies starting at 300 dollars each, at times.
However, its an investment that guarantees you that the puppy will have certain characteristics when it
grows up. Of course, a lot of people don't care about this aspect of the world of dogs and any
dog will do as their family companion.
I have had great purebred dogs such as golden retrievers
that helped me on hunting trips. But one of my favorite doggies was a mutt which I purchased for
$5 in front of a grocery store. She seemed the most intelligent amongst the litter present...
And I was rewarded with fourteen years of loyalty and laughter from her. Still
many dog owners have specific needs or just desire
a specific type of dog.
For example, if you have children, you will want a dog that will not hurt them and that will, in fact,
tolerate some childish abuse. Dogs grow much faster
than children, and if your child is too young, the puppy might outgrow him or her in two or three years.
Knowing how the breed normally turns out is useful information in advance.
Just remember that you don't need to be such an expert that you can certify
breeds of dogs in order to get a good one for your needs. You can easily find a breed of dog
(so many to choose from) which will fit your parameters by
asking around or finding the information you need on the Internet.
