There are a lot of you who are looking for piano lessons for beginners so here are a handful of questions I repeatedly get asked by would be pianists or keyboard players.

Does age matter?

This is the question that I get asked most of all and it still surprises me every time I hear it. It seems that plenty of people believe that you can only truly become a proficient pianist if you begin learning as a child.

This is not true at all.

Yes a whole lot of winning pianists begin to play very young but this is not set in stone at all. If you learn to play the piano as an adult then it will be much easier as you will be deciding to learn of your own accord. As an adult you are also more responsible when it comes to doing your well needed daily practice.

How long will it take?

A great deal of people take up the guitar because after only a short time of learning you will be able to get a good sound and be playing several well known song. Traditionally with the piano it takes quite a long time and demands a lot of hard work before you can be playing identifiable music. There are though a few home study courses that train you how to play the piano or keyboards in several different styles at the same time. These courses train you to play by ear and how to read music. These have you playing great music from the  very start.

Can I learn to play with a keyboard or do I have to use a piano?

The basic principles are the same for keyboards and pianos but they have a somewhat distinct feel. The keys are all the same. It can be more tricky to learn using an organ but a lot of keyboards nowadays have some very good piano emulations. If you are going to be playing a piano later on then you will find it more difficult as the piano keys have a heavier action meaning that they are more difficult to press down. If you learn to play on a piano from the beginning then you will find it a good deal easier to play a keyboard afterward. See also Piano For Beginners.

What do piano lessons cost?

Piano lessons with a specialized teacher can cost anything from $50 to $100 or more for an hour long session. The majority of teachers offer private lessons in their own homes, in a music center or they will travel to you. Some charge $50 per hour and other people will charge you $200 per month giving you a session a week. You can get the equivalent of a good deal more than a full years worth of classes for under $50 when you download one of the popular home study courses. There are some critical reviews of the absolute best home study piano courses and some free beginners guides to be had at the Learn Piano web site.

Are there places on the internet to learn at no cost?

There are a lot of sites offering free piano lessons on the web. Most of them are lessons for complete beginners and then they stop. There are some good online videos at common video sites. There are numerous videos showing you the basics and there are many that will teach you how to play specific songs. There is no structure here though. You will more than likely pick up something but you will not be able to learn correctly.

For you to learn piano notes fast, you should get to know the basics first. There are a lot of techniques out there to help you become a fantastic piano player. Going through valuable online resources like Rocket Piano could help a lot, too. But right now, it is crucial to stress the 4 basic techniques that every beginner should know and continue to implement even after playing for many years.

1. Familiarize yourself with your instrument. Playing on an actual piano will definitely work to your advantage as a student. How else can you familiarize yourself with how it works, what sounds it can produce, and learn piano notes if you can’t get to an actual piano regularly?

Buying your own piano may not be viable at this point, and that’s ok. You can always rely on supportive family and friends who have pianos – many have learned and have become great pianists that way. But as soon as you’ve put some money aside, getting your own piano is definitely a good investment to make.

2. Proper posture is vital. The best way to learn & master piano is by maintaining good posture at all times. This will alleviate unnecessary stress from your joints, hands, neck, and back. Even as you move your body from the waist up to the flow of the music from time to time, keeping a generally stress-free position will allow you to perform better and ultimately learn piano notes faster.

The chief position of good piano-playing posture is a straight back. Don’t forget to keep your fingers, wrist, arms, and shoulders stress-free. Move your chair closer or farther away from the piano so that your right foot can easily press on the pedals, your thighs are parallel to the floor, and your arms, too, are parallel to the keys.

3. Spend time in reading sheet music. Reading sheet music is an important part of learning to play the piano. That is exactly how you can learn piano notes fast. So if you want to be good at playing various styles such as classical, jazz, gospel, or pop, take the time to differentiate and dissect the tempo, beat, and mood of each.

While others can naturally play music just by looking at sheet music for a short period of time, most of us would require to give just a little more time and effort. With just practice, willpower, and desire, you, too, can play piano effortlessly. This leads us to the final point.

4. Learn piano notes with genuine enthusiasm. There are some piano students who, unfortunately, can’t get through one whole piece without making mistakes. Forcing yourself or others to do something they don’t want to do could result to just that. Playing the piano is no exception.

To become a good pianist, you need to believe that you want it. Always put your mind, heart, and soul into it. That way, you continue to make superb music and learn to play like a pro in no time.

Sticking to these 4 pracitices will give you what you need to learn piano notes effectively. Learn how to read music fast, remember to keep your passion for piano alive, and never stop dreaming.

How to play piano: The basics

Normally people say to learn any musical instruments you will have to start young but that is not true at all it is never too late to learn any instrument. If you are a new starter and learning to play pianos, I recommend getting tuitions from an expert rather than trying to learn it through online resources – the best thing about learning from an expert is you won’t have to buy your own gear untill you are good and when you know a great deal about the instrument you will know where to get a good deal from – saves a lot of money. As you are a new starter it is hard for you to understand the keys/codes so it is wise for someone who is an expert to be there and hold your hand till you get used to the codes.

First thing you need to know is the different between acoustic piano and digital piano. An acoustic instrument is always the best to start with no matter which music instrument you want to learn. This is simply because it generates the original sound. Acoustic pianos have heavy key touch so playing this regularly will make it easier for you to play light touch piano such as keyboard pianos. The only negative thin I can think about an acoustic piano is the size, whether you have enough space in your house to fit one.

If you start with digital pianos you will find it difficult to play acoustic pianos because of its heavy keys.

Another advantage acoustic piano has over digital piano is that, it has a long life and if something does go wrong while playing digital piano then to fix it, it will can be quite expensive. Digital pianos are mostly used by musicians and recording artists. They can use it to create background sounds for their music, record it in their PC and do all sort of other things.

I started playing piano since I was 4 years old. My parents chose acoustic piano for me to start on and I can safely say that after 23 years of playing acoustic does generate a clear and original sound than the digital piano. It doesn’t matter if you are playing guitars or acoustic pianos it’s always good to start early.

It also depends on why you want to learn to play the piano. Is it for your kids? Is it for recording your songs? Is it for just to have a play about with your mates?

There are few things a parent can give to their children that will make as much difference in a child’s life as music lessons can. Areas that contribute to a child’s overall well-being include good health, educational opportunities, and positive encouragement. Some of the best extra-curricular learning classes for kids include art classes or guitar lessons. Watching your child develop new skills such as painting or playing the guitar are some of the best, most joyful moments in life?

Music lessons are a beneficial addition to anyone’s life, and are especially great for developing a child’s creativity. Most guitar lessons for beginners courses are suitable for children to learn to play the guitar. The skills that are enhanced through music or art lessons include increased abilities in mathematics, concentration, focus, plus a healthier sense of self esteem and confidence. The benefits of learning a musical instrument far outweigh the price or time it takes.

Several important considerations need to be made when choosing which instrument your child should learn first (such as convenience, price, size). For a younger child – especially a preteen – there are 3/4 sized guitars made especially for smaller hands to learn to play the instrument. Check out the prices of pianos and having them shipped before promising piano lessons to your child! But if you feel you can’t invest what is needed with other types of lessons such as piano lessons due to the aforementioned factors, the best choice for your child would be a guitar lessons course.

Why should you or should you not let your child choose to learn the guitar? Beginner guitar prices are quite reasonable as compared to other musical instruments. As your child gains knowledge and experience with their music skills, they will have those to develop as they grow up. Also, you wouldn’t have to worry with other additional expenses, such as hiring a professional tuner for maintenance or the costly amount you have to pay for moving a piano, since a guitar can be easily tuned by yourself and is easy to store and carry around.

A great reason to choose guitar over piano is their portability. Kids love exploration and new things and they like being able to share what they’ve learned. Practicing the guitar is easy to do just about anywhere – either alone in a bedroom or the family room – or with a friend who is also learning to play an instrument. With a paino, the space it takes up and it’s inability to be used in more than one place can be a problem.

There are a variety of ways to learn to play the guitar such as local music teachers or online videos. There are also several good guitar lesson DVDs for your child to learn from. Kids tend to like watching videos to learn and they can learn new things quickly. Guitar lessons may be easier to learn with videos and DVDs than piano lessons. One way parents can have more input in their child’s guitar lessons is by purchasing a program that has teacher’s materials so that there is a lesson plan to follow. There are a few homeschool guitar lessons (for a teacher or parent to use with or without guitar experience or knowledge) with workbooks for both the student and teacher to keep a kid on track with their lessons.

Besides, kids might connect more with the guitar than the piano, because their music icons are guitarists as well. After learning the basics of how to play the guitar, many kids will want to learn to play the piano or another instrument as well.

Kids who have multiple areas of interest that they can develop make for wholer, happier adults. This is the best that parents can wish for their children. Giving guitar lessons to a kid is definitely giving a gift of great value. Many kids start off with music lessons for fun and they find they are talented enough to later make it their career – help your kid find out if they have any musical talent.
