A musical keyboard is the set of adjacent keys placed on a musical instrument. All the twelve notes of the western music can be generated using the keys of the keyboard by pressing the keys for larger or shorter durations which produces various kinds of tones. In an electronic keyboard, pressing a key connects it to a circuit producing the tone.

The twelve notes of western music scale are arranged with the lower notes on the left. The larger keys that correspond to the natural notes of the C-scale is laid just forward. These keys are often white in color and so are known as white notes or white keys. The rest of the keys which are not a part of the C scale are set black, hence known as black keys. Keyboards of different types require different techniques to play.

The volume of the note is determined by the displacement of the air along the stops which are manipulated by the player. The keyboard may look simple or uncomplicated but you will discover that playing it can be really difficult. The fingers should be independent of each other while playing a keyboard so that both hard and soft sounds can be produced at the same time.

A person who is likely to buy the keyboard in Singapore for the first time must take his time to choose the keyboard which he really likes. One should buy a keyboard which when played sends the signal directly to the brain. A great musical keyboard can produce mix songs which are sweeter to hear. Remember to test the keyboard before you purchase it.

Be sure to test if all the keys are in good working condition. The keyboards do not get better with time, so avoid buying vintage keyboards. Although if you are planning on playing classical music, then you should pick the keyboard with 88 keys on it. The keys of the keyboard should be lighter making it ideal for beginners. Keys are generally made harder by placing weights below them. Always test for touch sensitivity of the keys. The response of the keys when you lightly press them should be a soft sound while a heavier press on the keys should produce a louder sound.

Make sure the keyboard which you are buying can be upgraded with time. Sequencers should be present in the keyboard so that it is easier for you to practice songs with them. Once you have evaluated these different features, you can now buy the instrument of your choice from your local music store or through the internet.

Ukulele is a four stringed musical instrument, smaller than a guitar, that originated in Hawaii. The ukulele is strummed like a guitar with top to bottom tuning. It comes in four sizes which are the soprano, the concert, the tenor, and the baritone.

The ukulele beginners usually start with the soprano type since it is not so costly and is also easy to play, while the experienced ones who know how to play a guitar generally play baritone type. Baritone ukuleles are generally used by experts and are very expensive compared to the other ukuleles. Ukuleles in Singapore which are made of low quality wood are generally low in cost while some other ukuleles which are made of high quality of wood are costlier. The classic shape of the ukulele is similar to a guitar, but some imaginative minds have created it in various shapes like oval, triangle, pineapple, boat, etc.

The standard tuning which is used in soprano, concert, and tenor ukuleles is known as C-tuning which is tuned to g’c’e’a while the baritone type of ukuleles is tunes to d’g’b’e which flows from low to high. Another way to tune a ukulele, especially a soprano or a concert ukulele is by the D-tuning, a,D,F#,B. This tuning is generally higher than that of C-tuning. D-tuning produces a sweeter tone in smaller ukuleles.

For a beginner ukulele player, tuning the ukulele can be a difficult task to do but practicing more of it makes it quite easier. The music that comes out of the ukulele will only be good if it is properly tuned. The better tuned your ukulele is the more pleasant music it will produce. The tuning of a ukulele can prove to be fun especially to children, and it can get them interested in music. Some steps which can be followed for proper tuning of your ukulele include:

  • For tuning the ukulele you have to use an instrument which acts as a reference point and a piano or a guitar serves this purpose.
  • Press the lower G on your ukulele and rotate the button corresponding to that until you are able to match your ukuleles tone with the reference tone
  • In the same manner, also tune the other three strings. Keep playing the reference tone till all your strings get matched with it.
  • Now press the fifth button of the low G string and shift from the G string to the C string which will make a match. If they do not match rotate the tuning button of the C string until they get matched.
  • The E string should match the fourth fret of the C string. If not, adjust the E string until they match.
  • Verification for the A string can be done by playing the E string at the fifth fret. Make the necessary adjustments you have to tune them.

Tuning should be done carefully and delicately to avoid damage to your ukulele. If it is not possible for you to tune it in the beginning then you can take the help of some experienced person.
